Hats - Spring 2012

We are on a mission to begin our collection of hats to be donated to the Brooke Jackman Foundation. Care to Knitasks the chapters to submit the hats by early July.  They are then sent to the Foundation to be included in backpacks prepared for school-age needy children.

So from roll-brim hats to hats with ear flaps - we are knitting and crocheting away. Many of us have learned how to knit on circular needles which permits us to make a hat without a seam.  Looking for different patterns or creating our own - the challenge is on.

Sock Monkeys - Fall 2012

The students from the Floyd B. Watson School, Rockville Centre, NY made 41 sock monkeys for children going through cancer treatments.  We commend these fifth grade students and their teachers for being active in community service.

This year the Needlers are making all the hats to pair with the monkeys. These monkeys and their hats are sure to put a smile on any child's face, sending a message that we wish you well.

Wrist Warmers - Winter 2012

When Care to Knit was contacted by St. Judes Hospital they were asked for wrist warmers with matching hats for their teenagers who are going through treatments.  They felt this group of patients would not only feel warm but feel a bit stylish.  The Needlers tried different patterns both knit and crochet.

We managed to donate 23 sets to Care to Knit.  The founder, Ines Glick, has sent them on to St. Jude asking for feedback.  This valuable information will help up decide if wrist warmers will become a project we want to pursue in the future.
